Ramapo/Catskill Group Activities
Activities are open to members only. Dues include a subscription to Sierra Magazine and a local chapter newsletter. The local chapter of the Sierra Club is located in Pine Bush. For general information call Gene Vidal at (845)355-8823. Concerning the following group activities, you must call the leader listed before the event to confirm and, in some cases, to determine the place of the meeting.

Outings participants should observe the following :
- Be at designated meeting place on time.
- Be properly dressed, including sturdy footwear, for the season and type of outing.
- Be properly equipped. Water, lunch and extra snacks, rain jacket and the Ten Essentials should be in your pack.
- If you wish to bring a dog, you must call the leader at least 24 hours in advance to get permission. Additionally, you must bring a leash, be able to control your dog and be responsible for its needs (e.g. water and food)

Harriman Hiking Group
This group is for those who enjoy hiking and walking in NY and NJ, in Harriman Park and wish to arrange informal hikes with others. All our hikes are dog hikes. We have a regular Friday group hike, as well as lesser dog friendly hikes earlier in the week. Hikers in greater New York/New Jersey area are welcome. We hike the Appalachian Trail, Sterling Forest, Hewitt, Ringwood, Ramapo and other neighboring parks within easy distance of Rockland, Westchester, NYC, NY state and NJ.

All events are open to the public and will be held at the Visitors Center behind the museum in Orange County's D & H Canal Park. Lectures are FREE, boat rides are $5.00, Pancake Breakfasts are $5.00.
The Nature Conservancy — Saving the Last Great Places
Sam's Point Preserve
This 4,600-acre tract contains one of the best examples of a ridgetop dwarf pine barrens in the world. It is part of the 90,000-acre Northern Shawangunk Mountains, whose cliffs, summits and plateaus form a unique landscape of vast ecological significance that has been designated a 'Last Great Place' by the Nature Conservancy. Its trails lead to spectacular views in all directions. It is open to hiking from dawn 'til dusk.

For all hikes, please come prepared: bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, sturdy, comfortable footwear and a bag lunch for hikes over three hours. Unless otherwise specified, hikes are approximately 2 hours and are limited to 15 people.
At Your Own Risk Club
Affiliated with the NY/NJ Trail Conference
Planning meetings held on the first Tuesday of each month at
7 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church Parish House,
VanNess Street, Newburgh.
Club Activities
- Day hikes of 5-8 miles, easy to strenuous, mostly in the Hudson Valley, Catskills and Shawangunks. Planned hikes are on weekends, but some members hike during the week in addition to participating in planned activities.
- Annual overnight hike. Previous overnight hikes have taken place at various locations such as Mt. Greylock, Oliveria and Glens Falls.
- Cross country skiing is planned during the winter when hiking trails are snow-covered.
Dues Schedule
Individual member - $10/year .... Dues include a monthly newsletter.
